Wanlockhead Gold-05A Fantastic find happened yesterday (Thurday 4th June 2015) in Wanlockhead when a gold nugget weighing 18.1 grams with an estimated value of £10,000, was found while instructor Leon Kirk watched on as his pupil nearly threw it back into the water.

    18 grams worth £10,000 pounds ?. Is someone having a laugh . Very disappointed.

      Sorry you are disappointed in the value that has been placed on the nugget that was found, the reason the price value was stated at that was by a collector as we are fortunate in Wanlockhead that the gold is rare and the most sort after gold in the world due to it purity and it commands approximately 4 x the market price.

      Please do not hesitate to contact us at the museum for any further information or why not come and visit us and learn all about the history of the gold in the Southern Uplands which dates back centuries, it really is fascinating.
