Hi Denis, The licence for the Buccleuch Estate mainly covers the Mennock Pass, but there are restrictions from October to June as the salmon are spawning. You can also pan in the Meadowfoot area of Wanlockhead as well. When we are closed gold panning licences can be obtained from the Estate Office at Drumlanrig Castle, their opening hours are 0930hrs to 1630hrs Monday to Friday 01848 600403. I hope this is of some help? Kind regards M

Hi Forbes, Yes indeed, the office is not manned fully as we are in closed season but if you enclose a cheque made out to Wanlockhead Museum Trust we can sort that for you or alternatively you could contact Drumlanrig Estate Office. Kind regards M

Hi there I am interested in the gold panning course I have 2 children 11 and 13 who have autism and ADHD they have assistance dogs but we would like to attend. The kids struggle with large numbers of people. I was hoping you could suggest which course would be better.
    Kind regards
    Alex Allan
